The most popular pocket video cameras are the Flip HD camcorders, despite the competition from major companies like Kodak. Your phone (or still camera) may take videos, but cannot beat the quality, shareability, and convenience of a Flip. And does your camera or phone capture High Definition video? If you decide you want a Flip HD, which one do you pick – the MinoHD, the UltraHD, or the newest Flip, the SlideHD?
Evaluation Criteria
The author used three criteria to answer the above question – price, features (richness), and Amazon product reviews. A score of 1 is the Best, 2 is Okay, and 3 is Poor.
Results
Although the MinoHD is the slimmest, fit-in-your-pocket camcorder, it scores 3.5 stars in the Amazon ratings. The pricier SlideHD scores a little higher at 4 stars, but it clearly does not meet customer expectations (yet). The winner (lowest number of points) of the best of the Flip HD camcorders is the UltaHD. It’s the least expensive, reviews at 4 stars with a few complaints about the battery, and has more features than the MinoHD.
Here are the results:
Price: MinoHD – 2, SlideHD – 3, UltraHD – 1
Features: MinoHD – 3, SlideHD – 1, UltraHD – 2
Reviews: MinoHD – 3, SlideHD – 2, UltraHD – 1
Totals: MinoHD – 8, SlideHD – 6, UltraHD – 4
Personal Experience With The UltraHD
The author’s experience with the UltraHD is that it works perfectly out of the box. At least in the first few days of operation, seems simple to use and to upload and edit videos. And by the way, it’s a cool, functional gadget. If you plan to take videos of your kids, pets, and relatives on holidays, vacations, and special occasions, the UltraHD is perfect. Want spontaneity? On the TV show The View, Joy pulled out a Flip UltraHD to shoot the show’s videographer!
